Example Signal Conversion & Measurement Calculations

Current Output Calculation (4-20mA)

  • For a 0-100 ppm hydrogen sulfide detection range with a 4-20mA output signal, the concentration calculation is as follows:

    1. The total measurement range (100 ppm) corresponds to a 16mA signal span (from 4mA to 20mA).

    2. The concentration per 1mA increment is:

      100 ppm / 16 mA = 6.25 ppm

    3. Given an output signal of 12mA, the effective signal above the 4mA baseline is:

      12mA − 4mA = 8mA

    4. The hydrogen sulfide concentration is then:

      8mA×6.25 ppm/mA=50 ppm8mA \times 6.25 \text{ ppm/mA} = 50 \text{ ppm}

    Thus, when the transmitter outputs 12mA, the hydrogen sulfide concentration is 50 ppm.

Voltage Output Calculation (0-10V)

  • PPM = (Measured V10)×100\text{PPM}
  • PPM = \left(\frac{\text{Measured V}}{10}\right) \times 100

Example: If the output is 5V, then H₂S concentration is 50 ppm

  • Unit Conversion (PPM to mg/m³)
    1 PPM = 1.417 mg/m³
